What Is an Eating Disorder?
An eating disorder is characterized by dysfunctional patterns around food.
While there are recognized diagnoses such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, orthorexia, and binge eating disorder, you do not need a diagnosis to be struggling.
Many people experience disordered eating patterns like restriction, emotional eating, or anxiety around food that don’t always fit into a diagnosis but still have a significant impact on daily life.
For many, stress around food becomes so normalized that it goes unnoticed, despite the toll it takes on both mental and physical health.
Without support, these patterns can become isolating and all-consuming. It can feel like the only way to get through the day is to control or manipulate food while at the same time, that constant focus is exhausting and limiting your ability to live fully.
Signs You May Be Struggling With Disordered Eating
You don’t need a diagnosis to benefit from support.
You may be experiencing disordered eating if you:
- Think about food constantly
- Feel guilt, shame, or anxiety after eating
- Restrict food or feel out of control around it
- Use food to cope with stress or emotions
- Feel disconnected from hunger and fullness cues
- Notice your mood or self-worth is tied to food choices
If any of this resonates, it may be time to explore support.
Disordered eating is not just about food, it often involves the nervous system, digestion, hormones, and mental health.
Our naturopathic approach supports:
- Emotional eating patterns
- Anxiety around food
- Digestive symptoms like bloating or discomfort
- Stress and nervous system dysregulation
- Hormonal and metabolic balance
